Job Description:

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

1. Listening to recorded audio (or video) and typing what you hear word-for-word. The audio files are varied and can include focus groups for market research, interviews, meetings, phone calls, zoom/TEAM calls etc.

NEEDED SKILLS:

1. Strong attention to detail. Typed up according to the company’s style guidelines and without any mistakes.

2. Typing speed of at least 80 words per minute.

3. Good writing skills – a thorough understanding of all aspects of English language and grammar is crucial.

4. Discretion – you will be transcribing confidential audio; therefore, a professional and discreet manner is essential. We take data security very seriously.

5. Computer skills – as you’ll be working remotely or working from home, you need to be computer savvy and able to use different programs and word processing software.

6. Listening skills: the ability to listen carefully to audio recordings and interpret them appropriately.

7. Time management – deadlines are very important

8. Flexible working hours that fit around your lifestyle, as well as considering the deadlines

CHALLENGES THAT MAY COME WITH TRANSCRIBING:

a) Difficult audio – sometimes the audio may be difficult to understand. That may be because it’s poor quality, contains heavy accents or people are talking simultaneously.

b) Unknown terminology – extra time will have to be spent researching the correct spelling of unfamiliar terminology (medical terminology, business jargon, etc.)

c) Slow at the beginning. It can take a while to fully understand and feel confident transcribing, but practice makes perfect.

d) It should take you no longer than three to four times the length of the audio to type a verbatim transcription.

iv. Communications and social media degrees will be a bonus

v. 3 or 5 years of being a writer will be a bonus

You will be working hybrid with 80% home and 20% office or meeting somewhere.
